BWB | Burger VS Wings + Bar
Tucked away on the 11th floor of Orchard Central, Burger VS Wings + Bar isn't the most obvious pick for a meal. I wouldn't have known about it if someone didn't bring it up to me. But take the lift up, changing on the 9th floor if you have to, and you'd find a warm, American diner with a connected lounge and bar.
Staying true to the theme of a fight, the spacious 180-seater restaurant is decorated with boxing bag, gloves and a variety of equipments, with several TVs screening recorded ring fights.
Tyson Peanut Butter Burger ($21.90++) - Stockyard Angus beef patty, streaky bacon, arugula leaves, creamy peanut butter, sunny side up egg, cheddar cheese & sun-dried tomato brioche bun
I didn't expect much of their burgers, so I was very pleasantly surprised by how well it turned out. The patty was juicy and excellently grilled; the sun-dried tomato brioche was soft and toasted well; and all the great ingredients were rounded off with the creamy, peanut butter that highlighted the smokey savoury flavours.
BWB Classic Heavyweight Burger ($19.90++) - Stockyard Angus beef patty, smoked bacon, chilli con carne, sunny side egg, french mustard, tomato, onion, cheddar cheese & sesame brioche bun
As all classic burgers go, this was a safe choice. Good patty, great ingrdients, all held together with a nicely toasted fluffy bun. For such a classic burger though I'd much rather head further down to Brewerkz for their King Brew burger. At BWB, its the long list of interesting burgers that are worth a try.
Sweet Potato Fries & Garlic and Parsley Fries ($3.80++ as additional sides to a main order)
The Sweet Potato Fries stole the show. Fried to a perfect crisp, the fries were just the right amount of soft on the inside, and seasoned perfectly. Sweet and savoury, with a crunch in every bite. Perfect. The Garlic and Parsley Fries paled in comparison. They weren't as crisp, nor seasoned as well, and didn't have that strong garlicky fragrance.
Cajun Barbeque Wings ($15.80++) - rich tart sauces with cajun spice flavour
In this war between burgers and wings, the wings lost unfortunately. Not that they weren't good, just not as mindblowingly awesome. These cajun wings were grilled perfectly, which a great char on them. Basted in a sweet BBQ sauce, it was a shame the cajun flavour didn't stand out a single bit. The kick would've been interesting.
With a bar that sells draft beers at $5.50 from 12pm-7pm, BWB sounds like quite the spot for an afternoon drink. That aside the yummy burgers are much better than your average fare, and so are their sweet potato fries. I'd make several trips back for sure, to try the other intriguing burgers and wings on their menu. The fight between burgers and wings ain't over just yet.
