Absolute Açai: A berry-licious alternative
Since Project Açai first opened its doors a year back, more establishments have included açai smoothie bowls in their menu as a healthier dining option. The superfruit's no stranger to most, prized for its high levels of antioxidants with purported weight-loss and anti-aging benefits. That, and it's pretty delicious, seems to be what's helping it catch on in Singapore.
Absolute Açai, the newest kid on the block, is yet another açai-centric café serving superfood bowls and smoothies. Located in CBD, it's mighty convenient for the health-conscious working crowd and fitness enthusiasts. In fact it is the owners' understanding of the need for proper nutrition and the lack of such in their gym and work vicinity that resulted in the birth of Absolute Açai.
The menu's short and simple, offering two flavoured açai blend bowls, a DIY bowl option, and a smoothie for those on the go. Among the few not using Sambazon's products, Absolute Açai's signature blend consists of 100% pure organic açai, bananas, blueberries, raw apples, coconut water and guarana. Naturally sweetened with fruits, it is discernibly tart-er and fruittier than most and would please most berry fans.
Those who love lots of fresh fruits and berries would find the Absolute Açai Signature Bowl (S$7.50 for small, S$9.50 for medium, S$15.50 for large) most satisfactory. Topped with banana, granola, blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, chia seeds, coconut flakes, bee pollen, cacao nibs and goji berries, it has all the best flavours and nutrients neatly packed into one smoothie bowl. If you aren't one for tangy fruits, go for the The Brazilian Bowl (S$5.90 for small, S$7.90 for medium, S$11.90 for large) instead. It comes with creamier bananas, crunchy granola and a drizzle of mellow honey.
Of all their items we found the Make Your Own Bowl (S$4.90 for small, S$6.90 for medium, S$10.90 for large) most interesting. The price includes Absolute Açai's signature blend, with a variety dry/fruit/superfood toppings available at additional cost. We love this customisable option that allows us to have all our favourite ingredients and none of any we dislike! If you're already paying the premium for wholesome smoothie bowls, why not be able to choose what goes into it? It's definitely a breath of fresh air where others are always served with a fixed combination of fruits, .
You may or may not subscribe to the supposed benefits of this superfruit, but Absolute Açai's absolutely delicious smoothie bowls are worth the try. It's also a huge bonus that a 10% discount is offered to customers holding gym memberships - double the reason to get fit. They aren't the most meticulously arranged nor all that photogenic, but each bowl is prepared rather quickly and we value the efficiency over aesthetics. Plus the owners are still experimenting with newer creations, so we're keeping a look out for this little café.
