Around since 1986, Beach Road Prawn Noodle House serves arguably the best prawn noodles in Singapore. Serving up a recipe that has been passed down in owner's Lee Chee Wee's family for generations, it is no wonder it's popularity is widespread among locals.
With their signature Jumbo Prawn Mee going at $10.80 a bowl, it's far from being affordable for regular hawker fare. They charge significantly lower prices for their regular Prawn Mee (with or without pork ribs) - $5.50, $8.80 or $10.80 - yet most still opt for the former.
Jumbo Prawn Mee ($10.80)
Having not eaten here in a few years, I was delighted that standards were maintained. The steaming hot broth was so rich and flavourful you could almost taste just how much prime ingredients and effort went into making it. Every mouthful of noodle, vegetables and broth were heavenly; and all of that was elevated by the star of the dish. Using tiger prawns from the ocean, the prawns in the Jumbo bowl were not only larger, but juicier, more succulent, and extremely fragrant. The quality more than justified the hefty price tag.
Till today Beach Road Prawn Noodle House remains my favourite place for satiating Prawn Mee cravings. It definitely deserves a visit, whether you are around the area or not. It does get pretty crowded on lunch hours and weekends, so try to avoid those timings or be early and expect a queue. Place your order at the noodle counter, pop by the East Coast Ngo Hiang stall on their right (remember to get their homemade sweet sauce to go along), and you're all set to go.
