Nestled in a less crowded corner of Suntec City, Morganfield's can be easily overlooked if you aren't looking out for it; which would be a pity given the amazing ribs they offer. It's their second outlet newly opened in the last quarter of 2014, following the huge success at its Star Vista branch. Specialising in hearty American ribs and western fare, the interior stuck true to the theme with wood and brass overtones alike an American diner.
Russet Potato Skins (S$9.90++) - Baked potato skins loaded with mixed cheese and crispy pork bacon bits; served with BBQ Ranch sauce.
Morganfield's boasts a decent menu of appetizers, spanning light bites like salads and sautéed shrooms, to a variety of sharing platters. These potato skins, while decent, were not worth the calories. Too much potatoes were left on the skins, making them softer, chewier, and more like skin-on wedges.
Sauteed Mushrooms (S$9.90++) - King mushrooms sauteed with merlot garlic butter, sprinkled with parmesan cheese
Perfectly cooked, tasty shrooms - simple and delicious. We were surprised by how well Morganifield's prepared this dish. If there's any appetizer worth ordering, it's this.
Sausage Platter (S$25.90++) - sharing platter of grilled mixed sausages; served with coleslaw, Dijon mustard & homemade Garlic Aioli
4 sausages at that price tag seems very steep; so it's fortunate the quality more than made up for the price. The sausages were grilled to perfection, with a nice char and crisp skin that crunched with every bite. We liked the garlic, cheese, and chorizo that had really great flavours.
Hickory BBQ Full Rack (S$39.90++) - slow-cooked with hickory smoke, grilled and basted with Hickory BBQ sauce; served with French Fries and Coleslaw
The highlight of the meal however falls to their ribs. Called Sticky Bones, these babies are soft, tender, and succulent. Once the thin layer of fat on the side is removed, you're left with huge chunks of lean juicy meat. The portion is also really big, suitable for 2 and really worth the buck.
Our favourite was the Hickory BBQ ribs. Continuously basted with Morganfield's signature BBQ sauce through cooking, every bite was a burst of that sweet and spicy smokiness. So so delicious.
Smoked Peppercorn Full Rack (S$39.90++) - served with Red Skin Mashed Potatoes & Garden Veggies
Generously rubbed and topped with crushed peppercorns, this would be the choice for spice lovers. Equally as tender and juicy, the peppercorn ribs had a cleaner, lighter taste that was refreshing. But just in case you want any of that killer BBQ sauce, you can ask for a saucer of it.
I haven't had a lot of ribs, the only other places being at Brewerkz and Chili's, so I may not be the best judge of ribs - but out of the 3 I have tried, this takes the top spot. A full rack at Brewerkz goes for almost double the price, with lesser meat and a BBQ sauce that's a tad too sweet. For amazing flavours at a great price, Morganfield's is definitely the place to go for ribs.
