Sunday Folks

March 1, 2015

Being the sister branch of the successful Creamier has got to have its perks, notably so with a location that inaccessible. Nestled in Chip Bee Gardens at Holland V among other good F&B eateries like Baker & Cook and Da Paolo, Sunday Folks has seen a steady flow of customers - even a permanent queue - since its opening. And, if I may add, rightfully so.

Sunday Folks specialises in soft serves accompanied by a huge customisable variety of toppings. Ranging from Standard toppings (S$1.50 each) like marshmallows, lavender konnyaku and sliced nuts; to Premium ones (S$1.90 each) like souffle cheesecake, nama chocolate and sea salt chocolate honeycomb - the possibilities are endless. Creamier's famed waffles and a variety of featured baked goodies are also served.

All waffle orders come drizzled with chocolate sauce and maple syrup, and topped with strawberries and blueberries. So the additional toppings aren't that much of a must. That being said, who could resist the spread of funky toppings?

Our Flat White (S$5) and Iced Black (S$5.50) were pleasantly decent. Light and palatable, but bold enough for that caffeine kick.

Single Waffle with Sea Salt Gula Melaka (S$8.80)

Golden, crisp, and so fluffy inside. The waffles definitely lived up to their expectations as one of the best waffles in Singapore. They were perfect for soaking up the melting soft serves and accompanying sauces. Delicious as they were, the star of this pairing was the Sea Salt Gula Melaka. Subtly sweet, with a subtle saltiness that was rounded off with the creamy dairy, this was one of the best salty-sweet flavour combinations I've ever had, second only to Milk and Honey's Salty Malty gelato. Amazing amazing flavours. Sunday Folks nailed this one hands down.

Single Waffle with Earl Grey Lavender (S$8.80), with Nama Green Tea topping (S$1.90)

A bite of this flavour was a straight throwback to Antoinette's classic earl grey-flavoured desserts. The floral overnotes of the tea was strong and in-your-face in a great way. Only thing is that left the lavender undetectable.

It is surprising that soft serves can boast such bold flavours, and actually pull it off. I can see why Sunday Folks' wonderful soft serves and waffles have gained such a following. I'm lucky I have Milk & Honey to head to for great waffles; if I were ever in need of awesome soft serves, Sunday Folks would be top of my list.
